Physiology
Nearly a foot taller and twice as heavy as its predecessor, Ivysaur is the second stage of this Pokémon's existence. The bulb on its back has started to bud, revealing four large leafy fronds and a brilliant pink bud. Though not normally noticeable because of the leaves, pushing them aside reveals a short brown trunk that supports the flower. Otherwise, Ivysaur is nearly identical to Bulbasaur, except that its features are noticeable larger. Its fangs and claws have grown slightly, but its skin remains the same. One point of interest is that weaker Ivysaur enjoy standing on their hind legs, allowing the flower on their back to act as a counterweight. As they grow stronger, however, and the bud grows closer to bloom, it becomes larger and heavier and presses them back onto all four legs.

Alternate Coloring
Once again, the rare alternatively colored Ivysaur is much akin to its counterpart in the alternatively colored Bulbasaur. Its skin is a brilliant lime green, with bright jungle green leaves. However, the bulb has blossomed into a bud, which on the alternatively colored Ivysaur is a pale orange with a slight tinge of yellow.

Behaviour
Ivysaur are more aggressive than Bulbasaur, especially when they feel others under their care are threatened. Like most "transitional" Pokémon, Ivysaur are eager to test their new strength. Ivysaur are loyal to those that train them well and are apt to develop a personality akin to that of their trainer. Weaker Ivysaur enjoy running on their hind legs until the bud on their back grows too large to allow it, resulting in weaker Ivysaur tending to be more energetic than stronger members of their species. Because of the growing flower, Ivysaur spend most of their time basking in the sun, absorbing more nutrients to prepare for their final stage of evolution.

History
It is estimated that Ivysaur first appeared approximately four hundred million years ago, when it was most likely a pure Water-type. As the world began to change, however, Ivysaur made a transition from water to land, developing Poison as its secondary type as a defense mechanism. The earliest Ivysaur fossils discovered come from nearly one hundred fifty million years ago. The most important aspect of these fossils is the distinct lack of Bulbasaur's iconic bud. It was first believed that the buds where shed when the Pokémon died, but further research indicated this was simply not the case when more recent fossils, from approximately one hundred thousand years ago, were discovered with the bud intact.
It is theorized that because of rapid climate change and the cooling of the Earth, Ivysaur needed to adapt in order to survive. Over several million years, Ivysaur shifted from a Water-type to a Grass-type, forming a symbiotic relationship with the bulb it carries to this day. This relationship allows Ivysaur to gather sustenance directly from the sun, reducing or eliminating the need for Ivysaur to hunt as it would have needed to previously. This would ensure that it would survive the cooler temperatures.
As humans began to appear and evolve alongside Pokémon, Ivysaur were among the first Pokémon to be domesticated. Because of humanity's lack of understanding about Pokémon, however, over capturing of Ivysaur led to the species becoming extinct in the wild. The species itself, however, is thriving due to its relative popularity, especially with the recent discovery of "Mega" Evolutions, and ease to train and raise. The combined efforts of the International Pokémon League and officially licensed breeders ensures that Ivysaur will remain around for quite some time.
It is important to note, however, that efforts to reintegrate Ivysaur into the wild have thus far failed, as Ivysaur have simply become too domesticated over the last hundred thousand years.

Training
Ivysaur tend to be more difficult to train for new and inexperience trainers. Because Ivysaur has two types rather than one, trainers must employ a higher level of strategy when raising Ivysaur. They are naturally weak to the Flying-type, which is common in most areas of the world. They are also weak to the ever popular Fire-type and especially popular Psychic-type. In addition, they are also weak to the Ice-type, a somewhat rare but powerful type.
Despite this, Ivysaur are excellent Pokémon for trainers to use to capture other Pokémon, already having access to Sleep Powder when they evolve and learning Sweet Scent not long after.
Some of the more common techniques used at championship level competition are Growth, Leech Seed, Synthesis, and Solar Beam.
